THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION IN MACKSEY 2021.

The Richard Macksey National Undergraduate Humanities Research Symposium provides hundreds of talented young undergraduate research students across all fields of the humanities the opportunity to share their work nationally in the professional presentation style most common to their fields. Presenters represent over 45 states, multiple countries, and over 200 junior and four-year colleges. Some students read papers, use visual presentations, share original artwork or poetry—every presentation is the student’s own design. Attendees also participate in professionalization and recruitment events during the multi-day symposium. It’s the first conference of its kind and was founded at Johns Hopkins in 2020. It’s origin and naming tie to our rich history as a home for the humanities as the first research university, the origin of the undergraduate seminar, and the founders of the first Humanities Center, and we are so excited for the brilliant presenters in 2021 that will be joining this heritage. Please check our links to learn more about our namesake, the esteemed Professor Richard Macksey, who transformed the landscape of humanities study, and his student, Hopkins alum Robert Friedman, who endowed this conference in his Professor Macksey’s honor.

Johns Hopkins University is home to many established humanities graduate programs that you can explore by clicking Here. During the conference students will be invited to Q&A sessions with our faculty and graduate students. Additionally, there will be opportunities for a campus virtual tour—please check the schedule for details!

After the conference, participants will have the ability to submit publications to our journal of conference proceedings. The next issue will be published in Fall of 2021.

This conference is not open to the public; it requires competitive presentation selection and pre-registration payment. If you have registered, please select MY ACCOUNT from the top navigation menu and enter the email that you used to register.  You will receive an email to log into the site and view the presentations.
